Posted: 17 Dec 2014 05:29 AM PST Rock arts of Iron Age (Megalithic period), believed to be 4,000 years old, have been discovered at Kudumianmalai in Pudukottai district. J. Raja Mohamad, president, Pudukkottai Historical and Cultural Research Centre, and Rajendran, secretary, have found these painting during the field study in the area. Kudumianmalai and its surrounding areas are rich in Megalithic excavations. The Tamil Brahmi inscription of third century AD, rock beds of Jain monks, cave temple of the Pandyas, and the inscription of musical treatise of 9th century A.D, temples built by Cholas, Pandyas, Vijayanagar kings, Nayaks, Thondaimans, are some of the antiquarian remains at Kudumianmalai. The discovery of the ancient rock art attests further to the posterity of human activity in the area, according to Dr. Raja Mohamad. The paintings are found in a rock about 30 feet high, behind the Kudumianmalai temple. The paintings in red, black, and yellow are found in about 20 spots throughout the length of the rock on its eastern face. Man with a bow (in red), human figure, and an animal (in black), trees and creepers are a few of the legible paintings in the group. Since the paintings are drawn in the near vertical rock, most of them have been damaged because of vagaries of the weather and vandalism. However, the vestiges of these ancient paintings are evidence to the remote past of the place. The paintings are executed with the natural colour pigments such as red and yellow ochre, hematite stone and charcoal, in water medium. The slow action of water on the siliceous rock fixes the pigments firmly on the rock rendering them immune to the solvent action of water. The chronology of the rock art in South India is believed to be about 4,000 to 5,000 years old, Dr. Raja Mohamad says. The paintings at Kudumianmalai resemble other paintings found at places such as Alampadi in Villupuram and Sirumalai in Dindigal. Posted: 17 Dec 2014 04:36 AM PST Indus-like inscription on South Indian pottery from Thailand A fragmentary pottery inscription was found during excavations conducted by the Thai Fine Arts at Phu Khao Thong in Thailand about three years ago. (Dr. Berenice Bellina of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France, sent me a photograph of the object: Figure 1) The discovery of a Tamil-Brahmi pottery inscription of about the second century CE at the same site was reported earlier ( The Hindu, July 16, 2006). One can presume that the present inscription is also from the Tamil country and belongs approximately to the same period. The two characters incised on the pottery now reported are not in the Brahmi script. They appear to be graffiti symbols of the type seen on the South Indian megalithic pottery of the Iron Age-Early Historical Period (second century BCE to third century CE). What makes the discovery exciting is that the two symbols on the pottery resemble the Indus script, and even the sequence of the pair can be found in the Indus texts, especially those from Harappa. The symbol looking vaguely like an 'N' appears to be the same as the Indus signs 47 or 48 (in Figure 3). Professor B.B. Lal, former Director-General of the Archaeological Survey of India, showed that these Indus signs have a remarkable resemblance to the megalithic symbol occurring at Sanur, near Tindivanam, and elsewhere in Tamil Nadu (Figure 2). More recently, the same symbol has turned up on two pottery fragments from Pattanam in Kerala (probably the same as Musiri of the Sangam Age). I have compared the symbols with the Indus signs depicting a seated anthropomorphic deity. The symbol on the Thai pottery resembles a diamond. It occurs in the Indus script in diamond or oval forms (Signs 261 and 373 in Figure 3). What is extraordinary about the present find is the occurrence of the two symbols on the pottery in the same sequence as found in the Indus texts (see for example texts 4589 and 5265 from Harappa, Figure 3). The Thai pottery has only two symbols. Another symbol might have been lost owing to the fragmentary state of the pottery. Sequences such as this on the Thai pottery and those reported on the inscribed Neolithic stone axe from Sembiyan Kandiyur and on megalithic pottery from Sulur (near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu) provide evidence for the survival of the Indus script in South India during the megalithic age, and for the possibility that the languages of the Indus Civilisation and South India belong to the same family, namely Dravidian. "தம்பி ஆஸ்பத்திரி போகணும்" "நான் வரமுடியாது. சாப்பிட்டுட்டு, படுக்கப் போறேன்". "என் மகளுக்கு பிரசவவலி வந்து விட்டது, தயவுசெய்து வரமாட்டேன்னு சொல்லிடாதேப்பா" என்றார் அப்பெண்மணி. "நீங்க இவ்வளவு சொல்றதாலே வர்றேன். 500 ரூபா ஆகும்" என்றான் அந்த கார் ஓட்டும் இளைஞன். அப்பெண்மணி 500 ரூபா என்ன 1000 ரூபாய் கேட்டால் கூட தர சம்மதம் என்பதுபோல் வேகவேகமாக தலையாட்டி சம்மதிக்க, கார் அவர்களுடன் மருத்துவமனைக்கு விரைந்தது. கார் ரெயில்வே கேட்டை நெருங்கவும், எச்சரிக்கை மணி ஒலிக்க கேட் மூடப்பட்டது. அக்கர்ப்பிணியின் முனகல் சற்று அலறலாக மாறியது. இரண்டு ரெயில் வண்டிகள் எதிர் எதிர் திசையில் கடக்க, பத்து நிமிடத்தில் கேட் திறந்தது. இப்போது கார் இன்னும் சற்று வேகமாக ஓடி மருத்துவமனையில் நின்றது. நடுநிசியின் நிசப்தத்தைக் கிழித்தது அப்பிரசவத் தாயின் அலறல். மூடிய விழிகளில் நீர் மல்க, அந்த நடுத்தர வயதுப் பெண்மணி கைகளைக் கூப்பி மகளுக்காக இறைவனிடம் வேண்டினாள். அந்த கார் இளைஞனும் அமைதியாக அங்கே நின்றிருந்தான். சற்று நேரத்தில் மருத்துவர் வந்து சுகப்பிரசவம் நடந்துள்ளது. ஆண் குழந்தை பிறந்துள்ளதாக தெரிவித்தார். இந்த தாய் கார் இளைஞரிடம் "தம்பி! ரொம்ப நன்றிப்பா. இந்தா நீ கேட்ட பணம்" என பணத்தை நீட்டினாள் அப்பெண்மணி. "வேணாம்மா. எங்கம்மா என்னைப் பெற எவ்வளவு வேதனைப்பட்டிருப்பாங்கன்னு இறைவன் எனக்கு புரிய வச்சிட்டார். பணத்தை நீங்களே வைங்க" என்று சொன்னபடி நடக்க ஆரம்பித்தான். ஏதோ யோசிக்க போனை எடுத்து ஒரு நம்பரை கண்டுபிடித்து டயல் பண்ணினான். "ஹலோ முதியோர் இல்லமா?" "ஆமா என்ன இந்த நேரத்துல போன் பண்ணுறீங்க?" "மன்னிக்கவும். நாளு நாளைக்கி முன்னாடி அனாதைன்னு சொல்லி ஒருத்தவங்கள உங்க இல்லத்துல சேர்த்தேன்.. இல்லையா? அவுங்க அனாதை இல்லை என்ன பெத்த தாய். நாளைக்கு காலையிலே வர்றேன் அவுங்கள கூட்டிட்டு போக" முதியோர் இல்ல பொறுப்பாளரின் அனுமதியைக் கூட கேட்காமல் மொபைலை கட் பண்ணி விட்டு வண்டியை தீர்க்கமான முடிவோடு ஸ்டார்ட் செய்தார் . | Posted: 17 Dec 2014 01:03 AM PST சில பேர் இருக்கிறார்கள்.அடுத்தவர்கள் சந்தோஷமாக இருப்பதைப் பார்த்தாலே இவர்களுக்கு பொறுக்காது. வாடகை வீட்டில் இருப்பவர்கள் இதை அனுபவித்து இருப்பார்கள்..ஹவுஸ் ஓனர் ஒரு போர்ஷனிலும் வாடகைக்கு இருப்பவர் இன்னொரு போர்ஷனிலும் இருந்தால் கேட்கவே வேண்டாம்.கடைக்கு போய் ஏதாவது டிவி கிரைண்டர் என்று வாங்கி விட்டால் போதும்...ஹவுஸ் ஓனர் தடாலென்று வாடகையை ஏற்றி விடுவார்.. அவர்கள் வீட்டு பிள்ளையை விட வாடகை தருபவரின் பிள்ளை நன்றாக படித்து நிறைய மார்குகள் வாங்கி விட்டால் போதும்...இரவு பத்து மணிக்கே விளைக்கை எல்லாம் அணைக்க சொல்லி ஆர்டர் பறக்கும்.. இப்படி அடுத்தவர் சந்தோஷமாக இருப்பதையோ வாழ்வில் முன்னேறுவதையோ சிலரால் சகித்துக் கொள்ளவே முடிவதில்லை.. ஒரு ஜோக் நினைவிற்கு வருகிறது.. ஒரு கம்பெனி வளாகத்தில் இருக்கும் ஸ்டோர் ரூமில் ஸ்டோர் கீப்பர் ஒரு பழைய விளக்கைக் கண்டு பிடிக்கிறார்..தன் மேனேஜரிடம் கொண்டு வந்து காட்டுகிறார்..அதன் மேல் படிந்த தூசை துடைக்க கையை அதில் தேய்க்கும் போது ஒரு பூதம் வருகிறது..உனக்கு என்ன வேண்டும் என்று கேட்க ஒரு வாரம் ஆனந்தமாக ஊட்டியில் தங்கி செலவிடவேண்டும் என்று கேட்கிறார்..பூதமும் அப்ரூவ் செய்ய அவர் மறைந்து விட்டார்..இதைப் பார்த்த மேனேஜரின் காரியதரிசி தான் சிம்லா செல்லவேண்டும் என்று பூதத்திடம் கேட்க அவளும் மறைந்து விடுகிறாள்.. மேனேஜர் மட்டும் ஒன்றுமே கேட்காமல் இருக்க பூதம் கேட்கிறது" நீ ஏன் எதுவும் கேட்கவில்லை ..உனக்கு என்ன வேண்டும்?" என்று. மேனேஜர் சொல்கிறார்"ஊட்டிக்கு போன ஸ்டோர் கீப்பரும் சிம்லாவுக்கு போன காரிய தரிசியும் இப்பவே இங்கே வரணும்" இது எப்டி இருக்கு? அடுத்தவர் சந்தோஷத்தைக் கெடுத்தால் எப்போதுமே நமக்கு சந்தோஷம் கிடைக்காது என்று புரிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும்..இத்தகைய நபர்களை பார்த்து நாம் எரிச்சல் அடைந்தால் அவர்களின் எண்ணம் ஈடேற நாமே வழி ஏற்படுத்தி கொடுத்ததாகி விடும்.. #கொசுறு இந்த பொறாமைக் குணமும் நமக்கு ஈகுவல் தகுதி உடையவரிடம் தான் வருகிறது.. அம்பானி 20 ரோல்ஸ் ராய்ஸ் வைத்திருந்தால் அவரைப் பார்த்து பொறாமை வராது..அடுத்த வீட்டு அம்மானி தன் ஓட்டை டிவிஎஸ் 50 அ வித்துட்டு நானோ கார் வாங்கிட்டா போதும் டாப் டு பாட்டம் பத்திக்குமே..! @Chelli Sreenivasan  |
