Both should be seen as "agglutinative languages".He said looking up two dictionaries of "Winslow's English- Tamil Dictionary and "Percival's Tamil-English dictionary", he found some 500 words between Tamil and Korean, which have the same pronunciation and the same meaning.Giving examples, 56-year-old Korean said "Apa" in Korean is the same as 'Appa' in Tamil. Immediately, he enquired with them and they told him that they were from Tamil Nadu in India. Then, he started learning Tamil and emabrked on research on the similarity in pronounciation between Korean and Tamil languages. Posted: 05 Jan 2015 04:13 AM PST Ancient Tamil Civilization: ART ATTACK: Drawings as old as 5000 years face threat from vandals,who have defaced most of the works by adding their element of creativity Until a year ago,the rocks of Porivarai boasted of prehistoric paintings.Drawings of deer,bull,mongoose,elephant and figures of human beings,dating back to 5,000 years,decorated the hill,situated near Karikkiyoor,34km from Kotagiri in the Nilgiris.Today,the paintings face threat from vandals,who have defaced most of the works by adding their own bit of creativity.The graffiti by the vandals,using ordinary paints over the prehistoric works,indicates scant regard for heritage. K T Gandhirajan,a member of the team that excavated the rock art of Porivarai in 2004,said he visited the spot every year and agonised over the vandalism.The original drawings were clearly visible when we excavated the place with the help of a local person.The graffiti you see today is the handwork of a mentally disturbed person from the nearby village.He goes to the site often and draws religious symbols on the prehistoric works, said Gandhirajan.The Porivarai rock art panel,according to him,is the largest in south India. Even though the team that excavated the site immediately reported its findings to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) as well as the state archaeology department in 2004,neither took charge of it.If either of them had taken over the site,it would have helped us to protect it, said Gandhirajan.There are seven rock art sites in and around Kotagiri.Porivarai is the largest among them.It has more than 450 paintings,drawn in ochre and lime and made of natural pigments during different periods.There are plants,animals,human figures,including group scenes from battlefields and also of men riding on horses with weapons (bow and arrow,sword and shield) chasing the bulls. Dakshina Murthy,a heritage art expert based in Delhi who happened to visit the place recently,said the rock panel in Porivarai was priceless.The drawings have a solid form,created from using white kaolin and red ochre.Some of the figures have three layers of depictions,indicating different periods or visits of artists to convey their visual expressions.The entire panel would have been filled with images over a long period showcasing the rich tradition of visual thinking, said Dakshina Murthy. Posted: 05 Jan 2015 04:13 AM PST Ancient Tamil Civilization: An amateur archaeologist has claimed that he has discovered writings in a cave that appear to be similar to the signs used in the Indus script. The writings, found in a cave in the Karadikootam hills near Palani in Dindigul district, could date back to nearly 3,000 years, says V Narayanamurthy, who has been pursuing archaeology for the past 22 years. Speaking to The Times of India, Narayanamurthy said that in a cave on the eastern side of the Karadikootam hills, he saw writings on the walls that were very similar to the Indus script also known as Harappan script, which consists of short strings and symbols associated to the Indus valley civilization. Narayanamurthy, also Cuddalore district secretary of the Tamil Nadu Archaeological Research Institute, said the symbols found here were identical to the 240th and 247th signs out of the 1417 deciphered Indus valley signs. Earlier discoveries in this region, including a 'beadmaking unit', discovered last year, have strengthened the theory that trade between the Indian subcontinent and Greece and Rome had taken place through a route that covered this area. Four structures resembling a mancala board (a kind of board game) — which consists of 12 pits in two rows of six with beads being transferred from one to another — have also been discovered near this site. Traditionally, mancala games were played with holes dug in the earth, or holes carved out of stone. "These structures are proof that these games, similar to those found in the Egyptian pyramids, may have been played by traders when they came from faraway nations," said Narayanamurthy. These writings could have been untouched because they are inaccessible, and one could reach it only with the help of a rope, he said. Research would have to be done to know the nature of the ink used in these writings, because they were bright and not like the animal fat or natural dye writings found in many caves in the region. Rononjoy Adhikari, assistant professor at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai, who has done research in the Indus script, said the possibility of these writings being related to the Indus script could not be ruled out. "There have been claims of similar scripts being discovered in many parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, but a lot of study has to be done to confirm the same," he said. | Posted: 04 Jan 2015 11:04 PM PST திடிர்னு திருநெல்வேலிக்கு கிளம்பவேண்டியதாயிட்டு.. போன் வேர ஆஃப் ஆனதால கோயம்பேடு பஸ்டாண்டுல சார்ஜ் போட போனேன்.. ப்ளெக் இன்சர்ட் பண்ணும் போது பக்கத்துல இருந்த செல் கிழ விழுந்துடுச்சு.. அது பழைய சைனா பேசிக் மாடல்.. உடனே ப்ளாட்பாம்ல படுத்துகிடந்த லேடி யோவ் உனக்கு அறிவே இல்லயா..கண்ணு தெரிலனு கோவமா பேசிட்டு வந்துச்சு.. நானும் பார்க்க வயசான லேடியா இருக்கேனு ஏதுமே பேசல.. பக்கத்துல சார்ஜ் போட்டுட்டு இருந்தவங்களும் அமைதியா இருந்தாங்க. பேட்டரிய மாட்டிட்டு போன் ஆன் பன்னுனாங்க.. போன் ஆன் ஆகல.. மறுபடியும் சவுண்ட் விட ஆரம்பிச்சுட்டு.. எனக்கும் கோவம் வர என்னமா உன் பிரச்சனைனு கேட்டேன்.. போன் ஆன் ஆகல.. ஆயிரம் கொடு இல்ல போலிஸ்கிட்ட போவேனு சொல்லிச்சு.. அதெல்லாம் முடியாது போலிஸ்ட போலாம்னு சொன்னேன்.. உடனே அந்த லேடிக்கு சப்போர்ட் பன்ன பிளாட்பார்ம் உள்ளவங்க ரெண்டுபேர் வந்தாங்க.. சரிபா போன் உடஞ்சு போச்சு.. ஒரு ஐநூறு கொடுத்துட்டு போனு சொன்னாங்க.. நான் அதெல்லாம் முடியாது அது பேசுன பேச்சுக்கு போலிஸ்ட தான் போகனும்னு சொன்னேன்.. வேடிக்க பார்த்த ஒருத்தர் எனக்கு சப்போர்டா வந்தாரு.. அந்த போன் ரெண்டு தடவ கிழ விழுந்துச்சு.. இப்போ இந்த பையண்ட போய் காசு கேக்குறியேமானு கேட்டு ஒரு வழியா காசு கொடுக்காம முடிச்சாச்சு.. அப்புறம் எனக்கு சப்போர்ட் பன்னவர் தனியா வந்து ஒரு நூறு ருபாய் கிடைக்குமானு கேட்டாரு.. எனக்கு அப்போதான் தெரிஞ்சு.. இது ப்ளான் பன்னி போட்ட ட்ராமானு.. அவர்டையும் காசு இல்லனு சொன்னேன்.. என்னப்பா உனக்கு இவ்ளோ சப்போர்ட் பன்னுனேன்.. இல்லனு சொல்றானு கேட்டாரு.. உங்கள யாரு சப்போர்ட் பன்ன சொன்னாங்கனு கேட்டேன்.. அட போபானு தலைய சொரிஞ்சிட்டே போய்டாரு.. என்னமா ப்ளான் பன்றாங்கபா.. சிங்கம் சிக்காது.. @Franklin Deni  |
